ELEMENTUM - The Beginning of a Typeface
After several failures, this is probably my first serious typeface. Not even close to being perfect at this point, it is still being refined (and probably will be for quite some time). "Elementum" is a very basic typeface; extended and sturdy, like the writings in a book for elementary school students.

THESIS

Graduation Ceremony
On Saturday, June 3rd, 2006, in the presence of my parents I walked the stage at the Civic Center in Savannah to receive my degree as an MFA of Graphic Design.
Coming up until March 2007 are two more quarters at SCAD: I'll be attending two additional classes to earn a Certificate in Typeface Design and I'll be teaching undergraduate Graphic Design courses on a part-time basis.

Soon you'll be able to check out my Thesis through a link here.

Monotype Foundation Scholarship
On April 5th, 2006 I flew to New York City to receive the Monotype Foundation Scholarship at the Type Directors Club. This scholarship will enable me to take two additional classes at SCAD and earn a Certificate in Typeface Design by March 2007.

Check out the official Monotype Foundation web page here.

Posters
The final series of posters for the Cradle-to-Cradle principles will be presented to representatives of MBDC on Monday, March 13. All posters pick up on the concept "Nature doesn't have a design problem. People do" by taking imagery from nature and juxtapositioning it with words from the human design world.

White Noise
From the Colophon:
This book is intended to stand as a historic document since the context in which it was produced has passed and is considered to be part of history. How relevant is it? This we may find out ten or fifteen years from now, when somebody lifts an event or a song contained
here to the level of historical significance. The question of popular culture in relationship to what we cherish as “history” and it’s relevance stands at the core of this book. Going through life we are all bystanders, actors, creators, participants, leaders, key figures and followers of “our times.” Oversaturated by (moving) images, colors and sounds, significant events in politics, world affairs, and culture are barely noticeable and all take on the wavelength of White Noise, which forms the constant enviro-socio-cultural background of our lives.

Build Natural : Hairnest
This was an exercise in my Poster Design class. By using hair (and hair only) as a symbol for the ideas represented in the book Cradle to Cradle, I created a visual metaphor for "build natural." The hairnest represents how natural resources can be used to build structures that can be comforting and sustainable.

Information Graphics : Wordtree
As an exploration of information graphics (such as charts, graphs and diagrams), I created a word tree with words relating to the field of Graphic Design.

WASTE = FOOD
This was the first exercise in the Poster Design class this quarter. The assignment was to create a visual metaphor for the Waste = Food principle explained in William McDonough and Michael Braungart's book Cradle to Cradle. The book focuses on sustainable design and how we should take advantage of our scientific knowledge to create goods that don't end up as waste, but enter either the cycle of biological nutrients or the cycle of technical nutrients.
